MONDAY'S TIP: Getting Noticed

I mentioned a few weeks ago that having multiple resume formats was important. And it is true that you should have a resume created for each of the types or levels of job you are looking for. But I think that you should not forget to make sure that you have a resume formated for the resume's first audience and not just your final audience. What do I mean by that? If you were going to a job fair with your resume you would hopefully format it nicely and make sure that your margins were spaced eve… Continue

MONDAY'S TIP: Just Do It

It is like those old sneaker ads used to say. You have got to "Just Do It" if you want to get it done. About a week ago I found someone that had a near perfect resume for a job that I was trying to fill. I spoke with them over the following days and they were as interested in the job as I was interested in getting them hired. Their resume was missing their current job and about the last 3 years of their working history. I asked the candidate to updated it and send it to me. A few days later I… Continue

MONDAY'S TIP: Naming Your Resume Is Important

Well we are in the world of digital everything. And everything gets saved online or uploaded or emailed. And trust me I was one of those people that originally thought that some of it was just a fad. (yes RecruiterGuy/Chris I can hear you saying I told you so from a 7 year old conversation!) By now we all know that recruiters or internet robots are surfing the web and looking for our resumes. They are looking for keywords within our documents that we have uploaded to our blogs or our websites o… Continue

MONDAY'S TIP: Monday on Tuesday with a Cover Letter

So I'm bringing to you the Dear Abby Monday column on a Tuesday. Why? Because I have been so darned busy in the last two weeks that I might even challenge Chris (RecruiterGuy) to a calendar comparison. I can guarantee you that I would at least be a close second. :) So today's quick bit of advice is about cover letters. I am not a fan of the cover letter in most situations but there is an occasion now and again when I am glad someone pre… Continue

MONDAY'S TIP: Getting it Right at Job Fairs

It is Monday morning so you know what that means. Time for a quick tip for you job seekers on the go. Today's Advice from Abby is about presenting your resume at job fairs. As a recruiter I have done my share of job fairs and some are fun and some are just a beat down. The difference is how many people I get to talk to versus just standing around and chatting with my girlfriends or some cute guy at the next booth. You know you have to watch out for… Continue

Thanks for connecting Abby. Let me know if you are sourcing a hard-to-find professional and I'll see if I can help. If you have a great candidate with a lousy resume, please tell them about me!

Cheers,

Wendy

Hi Abby. I'm currently employed at Sweetner Products but will be returning to MPI Label Systems on the 15th. The general manager and plant manager will be in Chicago next week at Label Expo. It's a huge show and might be a great place for a profesional head hunter.

Hello Abby,
Nice for you to be interested in myself on this site. I am presently unemployed, and re-certifying in IT. I have an A+, N+, and taking the CCNA over now as my cert. expired. The final test is Thurs. and then I go fishin with the kids in KY lake.
I have set up a lab upstairs, not to make meth, but routers and switches(3 and 5 respectively). It makes hands on easier.
If you have anything in cisco your way or in the st. louis area, let me know. My email is greinhardt@charter.net. I am taking classes until I get employed and will try to finish the ccnp certification this year.
Again, nice to hear from you and welcome to the talent network. Have a very nice weekend.
